Siloam Springs, Arkansas

Most Charming Small Towns in America 2020

Siloam Springs (population 17,101) is on the Arkansas-Oklahoma border in Northwest Arkansas. Located on U.S. Hwy 412, more people enter Arkansas here than any other non-interstate highway. In addition, commute usually only takes 30-45 minutes to Bella Vista, Bentonville, Fayetteville, Rogers, and Springdale. Between the 2010-2020, the population grew 13.2%. Siloam Springs has a lower cost of living than the U.S. average that’s due in part to lower house prices. During the period between 2009 to 2019 years, houses prices have risen about 8.7%.

Siloam Springs is home to John Brown University (JBU), students from nearly 50 countries attend. In 2021, it ranked #12 in the of Best Colleges Regional University.

Businesses

Several large corporations located subsidiaries here including: Dayspring Cards (Hallmark) and Cobb-Vantress (Tyson Foods). Some other industries located here include La-Z-Boy of Arkansas, Gates Corporation, Webb Wheel Production, Simmons Foods and McKee Foods.

Downtown

For a small city, Siloam Springs has a lot going on. Most of the historic downtown area was built from 1890 – early 1930’s. As a result, the entire downtown area of the city is a nationally registered historic district. In Downtown are three parks, a walking trail along Sager Creek and a museum. It’s a great place to grab a bite to eat, shop and enjoy public art. Apartments are for available for those who want to live downtown. Things to Do

The downtown area has the Chautauqua Amphitheater with a water feature/splashpad. It operates form 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily with the push of a button by a visitor. The Amphitheater host outdoor concerts as well as other events. The city has tennis courts, softball/baseball fields, a soccer complex, volleyball court, a skate park, playgrounds and an aquatic center. The annual Dogwood Festival held the last Sunday in April is one of the highlights of the year. It offers different types of home-cooked foods and exhibitors from all over the country. Also included is a KidZone with activities for the younger crowd.

Additional activities include a year-round Kayak Park where beginners to expert kayakers can ride the rapids on the Illinois River. The park also includes a climbing bolder and a family swimming hole.
